School’s been out for a week already and I have not seen Seth once. I must be the only one who hates summer break, well, me and my best friend Natalie. She has to go visit her father every summer. I’m so bored when she’s not around. There’s not much to do in a RV so I spend most of my time at the beach.
I don’t bother with shoes, as they will only fill with sand. I love to feel the sand beneath my feet. I grab a book and weave my way through the RVs, in the direction of the beach. I love listening to the sound of the waves rolling in and lapping against the shore, while getting lost in a good book. Maybe that can take my mind of Seth for a short while. All these emotions for him can be overwhelming at times.
My chest expands with excitement as I get closer to Seth’s RV. As I’m about to walk by, I slow in the hopes of getting a glimpse of him. I’m almost past his RV when the door opens. Hope spikes in my chest only to be deflated when Mr. Brody steps out onto the small patch of green grass between the street and the RV.
“Morning, Lacey,” he calls out to me. “You’re up early. No sleeping in during break?”
I giggle nervously, “Just like going to the beach, Mr. Brody.”
“You take care out there. You’ve heard about the girls going missing? We wouldn’t want you to be one of them.”
I nod and quickly continue down the street. A few girls have gone missing. I don’t know any of them, just seen posters up everywhere and seen it on the news.
I find a spot close to the dock, where I have some shade to sit in. I dig my butt deep into the sand and rest my book on my knees. Soon I’m lost in the pages. Every time the sun starts to climb up my legs, I scoot along the dock, after the shade. I’m so caught up in my book that I don’t even notice other people arriving, until a ball slams hard into the book, causing it to slam into my face. I drop my book and grab the ball so I can throw it back.
“Aww … shit! You’re so white I didn’t even see you over there,” a boy calls out. I scowl up, catching the glare of the sun and have to squint to see who the jerk is. I recognize Hayden. He completes the trio with Seth and Marcus. I quickly glance around the strip of beach and feel elated when I spot Seth walking towards us. He’s wearing shorts and is shirtless, and it’s showing off a lot of muscles and skin. Oh, my gosh! I can stare at him all day long. He’s so handsome! I wonder what it would feel like to touch his chest.
“Girl,” Hayden whistles just as Seth reaches us. Hayden bursts out laughing and my eyes dart back to him. He waves a hand over the length of me, “who the hell wears jeans to the beach? You’re so fucking white I need sunglasses so I don’t burn my eyes just looking at you.”
Embarrassment flashes hot through me and I feel my cheeks warming. It’s safe to say I now hate Hayden Roberts.
Before I can say something in my defense, Seth steps forward. “Hey, back off, man. What she ever do to you?”
Hayden lets out a bark of laughter. “The mouse almost scorched my fucking eyes out.” He steps up to me and throws his arm around my shoulder. “I tell you what, Mouse.” He wags his eyebrows suggestively. “How about you get out of all of that,” he waves over my body and I feel my neck and cheeks flush hotter than before, “and then we’ll see if that blush colors your whole body.” I shove him away and bend to pick up my book. “Such a pity, it sure looks like you have a fine ass.” Another bark of laughter is all it takes from Hayden to make my temper explode.
I swing around and the corner of the book clips Hayden’s cheek. Stunned I watch as he grabs his face and roars with pain. “Bitch! What the fuck man?”
Seth steps between us, but not before I see the red welt and tiny drop of blood on Hayden’s cheek. Hayden is going to be so pissed! I’m not sticking around to see what he does. I take off running home, not sparing either boy another glance.
Only when I reach our RV do I dare to peek down the street. No one followed me. I let out a huff of air. “Stupid jerk!” I lash out as I open the door. “The one time I get to see Seth and Hayden has to ruin it!” I fill a glass with water and drink it standing by the sink, and then I remember that Seth stood up for me.
“EEEEEP!” I shriek and start to jump up and down. “He freaking stood up for me! Twice! Oh, my gosh! I’m going to die!” I fall back on the couch and stare at the ceiling, but all I see is Seth.

Demon throws the door open, shoving me inside and locking it behind us. He slowly strolls into the middle of the room, his large frame is very intimidating and no, I can’t ignore the fact that he is sexy but that doesn’t change who he is. “You’re lucky that it was me who found you.”
I look around the room, happy to see that there’s not as many guns on the desk than last time. “How so?” I ask.
I see the annoyance flash on his face. “Because if it was any of those other men out there, you would be naked, hung up and being raped repeatedly right now.”
My eyes widen from the shock of his words and he nods. “And you’re better?” I dare to ask.
A devilish grin appears across his face. “No, I’m not saying that but you need to watch how you speak to me.” I nod in answer. “Now sit on the sofa.”
I hesitate for a second but when I see the warning on Demon’s face, just daring me to disobey, I decide to take a seat. Demon quickly follows, standing over me. “How are you liking your new life with the Devil’s?” I’m shocked by his question, obviously I can’t say how much I hate it so I nod my head and smile. This makes him laugh down at me. “I think it’s time to give you your name.”
“I have a name.” I point out.
“Lauren?” He asks and I shouldn’t be shocked. He is Andrew’s uncle after all. “No, I don’t like that.” He reaches for my hair and swirls it around his finger. “I love your shiny black hair, makes me want to pull it as I fuck you from behind.” I gulp at his words. “That’s what I’ll call you.”
“What?” I’m confused. “Black hair?”
Demons laughs loudly. “No! Your name is Raven.” He rakes his big hands through my hair, it feels so good and I hate the fact that I close my eyes and savour it. “See Raven, I think you could really enjoy life here. You just need to relax.” He crouches down in front of me. “If you let the club look after you and let me take care of all your needs, you will have such a happier life.”
A happier life? Is this guy for real?
I don’t think this place is capable of providing a happy life for anyone, except maybe the members. Demon opens my legs and of course I do nothing to stop him. When he sees that I am naked under the skirt that was provided by Tracy, he smiles along with a groan. “See, you’re perfect.”

Our Ecocity abides by way of the seven virtues since the wars have ended. I’d say live, but I wouldn’t go that far. No one is truly alive around here if you ask my opinion, but I wouldn’t dare say that out loud. If someone dares go against the System of Principles, they get judged by the Emissaries, and if found blameworthy of an act against any of the Seven Virtues they are cast out to become a Dissolute. The Emissaries are clever, they never use words like hate, love, religion, nor faith and hope. I’ve read about those words and I think words like ‘hope’ and ‘faith’ might wake the people up, make them less zombie-like.

First of all I must tell you that I don't read Dystopian at all !! Like, I haven't read "The Divergent Series" or "Hunger Games Series." Go figure !
But this was something i was so impatient to read and TRY dystopian just because of this lovely cover ! I am in love with these colors.
But apart from the cover, the book itself was worth a shot ! It was my first Dystopian novel and I truly loved it.
The story was so grabbing that i couldn't put it down. Michelle Horst has nailed it !!
The story is about war and freedom. There are two rivals Virtuous and Dissolutes, there is a war between them. Virtuous have the ritual to choose seven people every year and send them to the World of Dissolutes to save the people and spread the word.
Jai is chosen to go in the other world but she doesn't know that everything is not the way it looks like.
"Life is not about being fair. It's about choices and believing that you always that you always make the right one. If you don't believe you made the right ones, it will haunt your every step."
Amazing piece of art, full of emotions, feelings of survival and first love !

“Where you at?” I hear her holler from the living
room.
“Bathroom…Give me a minute and I’ll be out,” I holler
back as I finish buttoning my jeans, I brush my teeth before opening the door
and heading down the hallway only to stop dead in my tracks at the sight before
my eyes. Tina is half standing, half squatting over my couch and has a look of
pain on her face.
What.
The. Hell?
I stand patiently and tilting my head to the side I
silently watch as she looks like she is having an argument with herself before
she finally sits down only to hiss as she squeezes her eyes tightly shut.
“Do I even want to know what’s going on with you?” I
say, as I stay standing in the entrance of the living room.
“Oh girl it was horrible just fucking wrong on so many
levels I don’t…I don’t even know where to begin,” she says as she shakes her
head.
“How bout the beginning or at least I would think that
would be a good place to begin,” I make my way over to the couch and sit down
beside her.
“Ugh…well last night after you bailed on me I ran into
Justin. You remember him?”
“Not really. Should I?"
“He went to school with us, last name Martin.”
“Oh yeah…I vaguely remember him.”
“Well we ended up leaving the club to go get something
to eat,” when I nod she continues, “Well everything went well, really well
actually. We ended up back at his place and ya know,” She shakes her head side
to side as she frowns, “We were in the bedroom and he was behind me and well…,”
I lean forward and move my head slightly from side to
side, “Well, what?”
“You’re gonna laugh I know you are,” she says as she
winces.
“I promise not to laugh.”
“Uh-huh…we’ll see. You know how sometimes I use anal
beads?”
“Yeah…why?” Not so sure I want to know anymore.
